Email groups: forward one address to several people
Create an address like [email protected] on a receiving domain so every message sent to it is forwarded to each member, like a Google Workspace group.
Updated on
An email group is a shared address, such as [email protected] or [email protected], whose mail is forwarded to several people. Anyone can write to the group address, and each member gets their own copy in their usual mailbox (Gmail, Outlook…).
Creating, editing and deleting groups needs the Manage permission in the Email module.
Before you create a group
A group lives on a verified domain with Receiving on: see Receive email on your domain. If you have no such domain yet, the Email groups page says so and links to Email → Domains.
Create a group
- Open Email → Email groups.
- Under Create a group, type the part before @ (for example
team) and pick the domain. - Give it a Group name, such as "Sales team". Members see mail from "Sender via Sales team".
- List the Members, one address per line, up to 100.
- Click Create group.

To change the members or the name, click the group address in the list, edit and click Save. The address itself cannot change; delete the group and create a new one instead.
What members receive
- The sender shows as "Sender via Group name" at the group address. Ha Tang can only send from your own domain, so the original sender's address cannot be kept as From.
- Reply goes straight back to the original sender, not to the group.
- Subject, body and attachments are kept. Members do not see each other's addresses.
- The original stays in Email → Receiving. Forwarded copies appear in Emails like any other send, with each member's delivery status.
What is not forwarded
- Mail marked as spam.
- Automated mail: auto-replies, out-of-office notices, bounce messages, mailing-list mail.
- Mail that already went through a Ha Tang group, so groups never forward in a loop.
- More than 30 messages in an hour from the same sender to the same group.
These messages are still kept in Receiving; they are just not sent on to members.
A member cannot be the group itself or another group. To combine two groups, add the other group's members directly.
